EMDR Intensives

EMDR Intensive Therapy is a growing and more common take on traditional EMDR therapy that grabs all the good stuff from EMDR and packs it into a short, powerful program. Instead of attending sessions every week for months and even years, this method gets a bunch of EMDR sessions done and dusted in just a few days, over one or two week. It's a quicker, more focused way to work through the tough stuff tailored to your unique needs

Why should I do an intensive?

EMDR Intensive programs are incredibly effective in improving, reducing, and can even occasionally eliminate characteristics associated with trauma [such as nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, panic, despair/guilt, intrusive thoughts, rage and even belly/digestive issues] in a much shorter timeframe compared to conventional EMDR therapy approaches. Processing and resolving traumatic memories with EMDR Therapy helps the brain integrate these experiences, leading to a reduction in trauma characteristics and increased emotional well-being

Should I do an intensive program or traditional EMDR?

We acknowledge that regular weekly or fortnightly therapy sessions aren't everyone's cup of tea, which is why we offer something a bit different through our EMDR Intensive trauma treatment program. The intensive program is designed to be both efficient and impactful.

In our EMDR Intensive Programs, we pack in treatment sessions much closer together [think three sessions in a single week] and we double the session time to 2 hours [100 mins]. This setup lets us move through the phases of EMDR processing more effectively. It's all about getting to a deeper level of processing quicker, so we can work through the traumatic stuff in a way that offers you relief sooner.

Instead of the usual therapy rhythm—catching up, talking through what's been tough lately, a bit of EMDR reprocessing, and then some homework—our Intensive Programs are focused on moving through the EMDR phases. This focused effort means we're directly tackling the core of your trauma, working through the memories, beliefs, and feelings in a concentrated way.

The whole idea behind our EMDR Intensive Programs is to speed up your healing journey, helping you find relief from traumatic experiences and their knock-on effects much quicker than traditional methods might.

What are the benefits of an intensive program?

The packed format of an intensive program offers a bunch of benefits such as:

Quicker Results than Traditional EMDR Therapy

With a bunch of sessions condensed into a shorter timeframe, participants often notice significant improvements in their emotional and mental health way quicker than usual.

A Program Focused on Address your Trauma

By setting aside a solid chunk of time for therapy, participants get the chance to really dig into their emotional journeys and make the most of a focused, intensive dive into their healing journey.

Space for Neurodivergent Folks to really deep dive

Intensive EMDR sessions are pretty awesome for neurodivergent people because it allows for really diving deep into your trauma and its effects in one go, without being boxed into a standard 50-minute session. It's like having the space and time to unpack everything at your own pace, which can make a huge difference in getting to the heart of things.

Convenience of fitting into your life

For folks who find it a bit of a trek to get to our Footscray spot, or who have a hectic schedule with work, study, life, and family commitments, EMDR Intensive Therapy is a great and convenient option.

So how does the program actually work?

We work with you to structure a program that suits your individual needs

Number 1 on a gauge or speedometer

First you jump on a 30 min intake call with your intensive clinician who takes you through the program requirements and assesses your suitability for our intensive program.

Whilst intensives are a great way to work through quite a lot, not everybody is suited to this way of working for a bunch of reasons.

During the call, you and the intake clinician decide on whether a weekend, 1 week or 2 week intensive program would suitable for your unique needs and situation. See below for the structure of the weekend, 1 week or 2 week programs

A semi-circular gauge with the number 2 in the center, indicating a reading or level.

The clinician will pass you onto the admin team to book you into your intensive program, working with you to find a day and time that works best.

All programs (except for the weekend program) require at least a one day gap inbetween sessions.

Number three on a zero to five progress gauge.

You fill out our intake forms and the required payments and we’ll send you your EMDR work book prior to your first session. From there you start your program at the program start date.
