Harshani Algiriya

Accredited EMDR Therapist, Counsellor, Psychotherapist & Clinical Supervisor.

Who do I work with?

I’ve had and continue to have the privilege of working closely with individuals, couples, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds. My extensive experience in various fields, including domestic and family violence, youth work, school counselling, and trauma counselling, has been instrumental in shaping my professional growth and development. I offer therapy and EMDR to people in both Sinhalese and English.

Hello and welcome! I’m Harshani, a registered clinical counsellor and psychotherapist dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families unlock their full potential and embark on a journey of healing. At Niram EMDR and Trauma Counselling, my focus lies in providing specialised support in areas such as complex trauma, attachment trauma, and dissociation. I am committed to continuous growth and advanced training to ensure my clients’ highest level of care.

In my practice, I primarily utilise EMDR therapy and Gottman couples therapy, which have proven to be highly effective in facilitating positive change and healing. Additionally, I integrate various therapeutic modalities such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), resource therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based approaches to create a tailored treatment plan for each individual.

Having migrated to Australia from Sri Lanka with my family, I am proud to be a citizen of both countries. My rich experience and cultural knowledge allow me to offer valuable support to new migrants and families, aiding them in a seamless transition to their new cultural environment. As a practice owner with locations in both Sri Lanka and Melbourne, I am deeply committed to offering compassionate support to individuals on their healing journeys where they are.
